Although Oklahoma Correctional Industries is an integral part of the Department of Corrections, it is more like a private business conglomerate working within the framework of state government.
It offers customers quality products at a reasonable price, reduces offender idleness and provides job skills training.
This results in significant overall tax savings to the general public.
Oklahoma Correctional Industries employs over 1,200 offenders in 17 traditional operations and 17 private/public partnerships in 11 locations. OCI produces over 5,000 products ranging from furniture to correctional steel products. OCI reduced offender idleness by producing over 1.6 million offender work hours.
OCI is also involved in recycling paper, cardboard, and pallets. In addition, OCI recycles ink cartridges for its own use.
